Kingfish fall to Gators, 4-1

The Louisiana IceGators used goals from four different players as Kyle Kettles registered 43 saves in a 4-1 win over the Kingfish at the Centroplex.

The IceGators jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Casey Kesserling flipped a shot over Jeff Blair’s shoulder just 20 seconds into the first period. Nick Cammarata and Milt Mastad picked up the helpers on the goal.

John DePourcq extended Louisiana’s lead to two goals on the power play 3:57 into the first. The IceGators’ forward slipped the puck off the skate of a Kingfish defenseman and through the legs of Blair. Sean McNeil and Cal Benazic added the assists on the goal.

The IceGators took a three goal lead as Martin Bartek slipped a loose puck past Blair on another IceGators’ power play. DePourcq and Benazic picked up the assists on the goal at the 11:58 mark of the first.

Erik Adams got the Kingfish on the board before the end of the opening period as he lifted a backhand over the shoulder of Kyle Kettles with only 34 seconds left in the period. Brad Fraser and Jerry Gernander picked up the assists on the goal.

Late in the third period Andrew Proskurnicki added an insurance empty net goal as Jeff Blair was lifted in favor of an extra attacker. Proskurnicki picked up the unassisted goal at the at the 8:02 mark of the perod.

For the second straight game, the Kingfish outshot their opponent but again came up on the short end of a 4-1 score. Jeff Blair made 31 saves in the losing effort for the Kingfish.

The Kingfish are back in action Sunday when the Arkansas RiverBlades visit the Centroplex. Catch all the action on Baton Rouge’s Best R & B, 104.5, WZRB beginning with the Kingfish pregame show at 3:50 p.m.
