KINGFISH SET FOR BLADES
WILD CARD ROUND COULD GET WILD

The Baton Rouge Kingfish of the East Coast Hockey League are all set to take on the Arkansas RiverBlades tonight in Little Rock, Arkansas.

However, tomorrow night’s return match up in Baton Rouge may turn out to be a memorable evening in the world of sport. Has anyone every saw two teams play into sudden death overtime twice in the same night?

The scenario could quite easily develop, as the Kingfish are prone to tightly contested games, 17 of 72 regular season games went to overtime, 15 were decided by one goal and 13 by two goals.

In the event Wednesday’s game is tied after three periods the usual format of a five-minute overtime followed by a shoot out is scrapped for the playoffs. The ice will be resurfaced and the teams will play sudden death overtime, in 20- minute periods, till the game is decided by the first goal.

If the teams split the first two games, a 10-minute “mini game” will follow Game Two. Should the game remain tied after 10 minutes, the ice will again be resurfaced and sudden death overtime, in 20-minute periods, will ensue. The eventual winner will move on the Southern Conference QuarterFinals.

The puck drops Wednesday night at 7:05 at the Riverside Centroplex when it finally stops is what may have sports fans talking about for years to come.
