Goaltender Brian Leitza of the Baton Rouge Kingfish has been selected to represent the Southern Conference All-Stars at the 2001 ALLTEL/ECHL All-Star Game February 13 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The 6’2”, 185 lb., backstop finished second in voting behind Kirk Daubenspeck of the South Carolina Stingrays. All 16 Southern Conference Head Coaches were on the selection committee.

Leitza, 26, is 9-9 this season posting a 2.67 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. His three shutouts ranks second in the league.

The Lake Villa, Illinois native joins Luke Curtin (1998-99, 99-00), Dave van Drunen (97-98) and Blair Manning (96-97) on the all-time list of Kingfish All-Star participants. Leitza’s goaltending teammate with the Kingfish, Paxton Schafer, was an ECHL All-Star last season as a member of the Pee Dee Pride.

The other Louisiana based team All-Stars are defenseman Chris Valicevic and goaltender Jason Saal from the Louisiana IceGators and forward Martin Bartek of the New Orleans Brass.

The Kingfish complete a five game road swing Friday and Saturday in Tallahassee and Greenville. The team returns to the Riverside Centroplex January 24 with a game against the Birmingham Bulls at 7:05 p.m.
