The Kingfish closed out the year 2000 with four Hibernia Cup games. One versus the New Orleans Brass and three straight against the Louisiana IceGators. The Fish split the four games to close out December with an 8-4-1 record. The Kingfish find themselves in seventh place in the Southwest Division but only three points out of second. A mere four points separate second place from eighth. Centerman Mike Rucinski lead the team with nine goals (three game winners) and eight assists in 13 December games.


Fri., Jan. 5, vs. Pensacola                    7:05P                   Riverside Centroplex

The third of four visits to Baton Rouge for the IcePilots. The Fish split the first two games, losing 5-1 and winning 3-2. Pensacola Centerman Jeff Bes is second in league scoring with 50 points.


Sat., Jan. 6, in Mississippi                   7:35P                  Miss. Coast Coliseum

The Kingfish dropped a 4-3 overtime decision in Biloxi back in late November. The SeaWolves are two points up on the Fish in the Southwest Division standings.

12/22  Kingfish 6 vs. Brass 4

The Kingfish scored the first three goals of the game and the last three to match a season high scoring total. Rookie defenseman Chris Chelios scored his first pro goal on a first period power play.


12/23  Kingfish 2 at IceGators 3

G Brian Leitza was solid stopping 39 of 42 shots. The Kingfish managed 21 shots on IceGator goaltending the lowest shot output of the season.


12/29 Kingfish 5 vs. IceGators 4 SO

F Matt Erredge got credit for the shoot out winner and G Paxton Schafer stopped all five shoot out shots he faced. Captain Cam Brown tied the game with his ninth goal of season late in the third period. Brown added two assists for a three point night.


12/31  Kingfish 2 at IceGators 4

Kingfish got goals from their top scoring players, winger Jon Sturgis and center Mike Rucinski. Brian Leitza got pulled from a game for the first time this season.

·         Jay Legault has a goal and five assists in 13 games, Jarrett Smith one goal and four assists in 15 games with Cincinnati (AHL).

·         Kingfish Power Play 15.09% (23th)

·         Kingfish Penalty Killing 81.81% (11th)
